The 30th European Table Tennis Championship (officially: 2011 INTERSPORT European Championships) took place from October 8th to 16th, 2011 in Gdansk (Poland). The venue was the ERGO Arena with a capacity of 11,000.
Overview
In the men's team competition, Germany prevailed for the fifth time in a row . For Timo Boll this was already the fourteenth title at European championships. It was also remarkable that Jörgen Persson, at the age of 45, again led Sweden into the team final. In the double competition, for the first time since 2003, there was no medal for a German duo, with the Portuguese Marcos Freitas and Croat Andrej Gaćina winning . In the final of the individual competition there was a new edition of last year's European Championship final and again the winner was Timo Boll, who snatched his fifteenth title.
In the women's team competition, the Netherlands was able to prevail for the fourth time in a row . In the women's doubles, the last six European champions of the doubles competition faced each other in the semifinals. The defending champions Rūta Paškauskienė / Oksana Fadejewa , the European championship doubles from 2009, Elizabeta Samara / Daniela Dodean and the European championship doubles from 2008, Krisztina Tóth / Georgina Póta reached the round of the last four, plus a double with Li Jie and Jelena Timina who already had two Were able to win a European championship title with the team days earlier. In the end, however, the defending champions prevailed. In the individual, Li Jiao from the Netherlands prevailed, who was able to secure her second title at this European championship after the team title and won the individual competition for the second time after 2007. In the final, she beat the German Irene Ivancan 4: 3.
Organizational deficiencies during the European Championship and a lack of audience response were criticized.
