János Jakab

János Jakab (born July 23, 1986 in Budapest ) is a Hungarian table tennis player who has performed internationally since 1999. So far (2016) he has participated in eleven world championships and once in the Olympic Games .

Career

János Jakab achieved his first international successes at the European Youth Championships. In 1999 and 2001 he was champion with the Hungarian team, in 2001 he also won doubles with Krisztian Molnar. In 2003 he reached the singles final, which he lost to Christian Suess . A year later he became European youth champion in singles and also in mixed with Li Bin (Hungary).

From 2005 to 2015 János Jakab was represented at eleven world championships , but never came close to medal ranks. In 2008, 2011 and 2013 he took part in the European Championships . In doubles with Dániel Kosiba , he reached the quarter-finals in 2011 .

In 2008 he qualified for the individual competition at the Olympic Games . Here he defeated the French Patrick Chila in the first round , but then retired against Christian Süß .

So far, János Jakab has been national Hungarian champion in singles five times (2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014). With the Budapesti Vasutas SC club he was Hungarian team champion in 2003, 2004 and 2005, and in 2007 he won the title with Lombard-BVSC Budapest. In the 2010/11 season he played in the German Bundesliga at Borussia Düsseldorf , where he and the team won the German Cup and Champions League . He later played in France and Austria.

In September 2010, János Jakab was ranked 57th in the ITTF world rankings .
