Christian Süß (born July 28, 1985 in Ahlen , Westphalia ) is a former German table tennis player . With the German team he won four European championships, one Olympic silver and two World Cup silver, in doubles he was also four times European champion and 2005 vice world champion and won gold at the Pro Tour Grand Finals in 2005 and 2009. In 2015 he ended his career as Athlete.

Career

At the age of six, Christian Süß left his hometown club Ahlener SG and joined the TTC Grünweiß Bad Hamm , where he stayed until 1998. He then played for one season with TSG Dülmen in the regional league. In 2000 he helped the TTC Altena to move up from the top league to the regional league. He has been under contract with Borussia Düsseldorf since 2001 , with whom he has won the German team championship and the Champions League several times . In October 2003, Suss played for the first time in the national team, with which he won several European championship titles.

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing he reached the final with the German national team after victories over Croatia, Canada, Singapore and Japan, which was lost 3-0 to hosts China. At the German championships in 2010 in Trier, he was the first time German champion in singles by winning the final against the favored Timo Boll .

In 2005, Süß was the first athlete to be awarded the Medal of Honor of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.

In the 2014/15 season Christian Süß played for TTC RhönSprudel Fulda-Maberzell , after which he ended his career as a competitive athlete for health and school reasons. In 2018 he joined the third division club SV Union Velbert , but was never used there. In 2019 he moved to the regional league club DJK Franz-Sales-Haus Essen. At the end of 2018 he was hired by the German Table Tennis Center DTTZ as an honorary trainer.

Since February 2014, Süß has been a student at the Wilhelm-Heinrich-Riehl-Kolleg in Düsseldorf .
