The Turn- und Spielgemeinde eV Dülmen is a sports club from the city of Dülmen in Westphalia . The club was re-founded in 1945 as the legal successor to the clubs VfL Dülmen and Turn- und Spielverein 1884 Dülmen . He offers the sports of soccer , athletics and table tennis .

history

In 1919 the Turn- und Spielverein Dülmen was founded, which was renamed in 1924 to Spielverein Union Dülmen and in 1927 to VfL Dülmen . This merged in August 1936 with TuS 84 Dülmen to form TSG Dülmen. The city colors blue and yellow became the club colors.

In 1924 a soccer team was formed, which played in the lower leagues of the Westphalian soccer association over the next few years . In the 1938/39 season, the championship in the Steinfurt relay and promotion to the next higher league succeeded. In 1945 the association was re-established. At the end of the 1949/50 season, the Dülmenern won the championship in the Münster district class and promoted to the Westphalia regional league . After four years of membership in the league, Dülmen rose again in 1954. Until 1959, TSG Dülmen played in the Recklinghausen district class.

From 1960 Dülmen was then assigned to the Emsland district class. At the end of the 1962/63 season, relegation could only be secured in the extension against the SuS Neuenkirchen . In 1967 he was relegated to the Coesfeld district class. The football department's most successful season was 1993/94 , when they played for a year in the then third-class Oberliga Westfalen . One of the players with whom the team rose from the state league to the upper league was the later Bundesliga coach Michael Oenning . In 1996 the team rose again to the league and stayed in fourth class until 2003 . Then the association withdrew voluntarily. In 2011 he was relegated to the district league. In 2016, the team rose again to the state league, but had to relegate again after a year.

The club's stadium on Grenzweg (North Leisure Center) in Dülmen offers space for 5,000 spectators and has a covered grandstand with seats. The TSG Dülmen facilities include a total of four outdoor sports fields: a pure football field, a grass field with a tartan track , a small space for youth teams up to D-youth and an ash field. In the 2006/07 season, the first C-youth team made it to the 3rd round of the Westfalenpokal, in which they were eliminated against a youth team from Arminia Bielefeld .

Overview and successes

The most successful department at TSG Dülmen so far has been the table tennis department . The first women's team was one of the most successful German teams in the 1990s and played in the table tennis Bundesliga for many years . In 1987 he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga, in 1988 the coach Dirk Schimmelpfennig made it through to the 1st BL. In 1995 TSG Dülmen was German champion, six times overall they won the runner-up. In 1991 the Dülmenerinnen won the ETTU Cup , the following year they reached the final; In 1995 and 1996 they were in the European Cup finals , but lost both finals against Statisztika Budapest from Hungary. The players in these successful years included Olga Nemes , Ding Yaping , Tong Ling , Nicole Struse , Ilka Böhning , Elke Wosik , Dana Weber and Christiane Praedel . Since 1980, the German student champion from 1986, Birgit Schmude (today Birgit Schneider), was active in the association. In 1991 she moved to Langweid and returned via ESV Coesfeld in 1994. 1997 the team with the line-up Nicole Struse, Åsa Svensson , Alessia Arisi , Ilka Böhning and Birgit Schneider (Schmude) became German runners-up. TSG withdrew all women's teams immediately afterwards.

The men's team became champions of the upper league in 1996 and played in the Regionalliga West in 1996/97. As a teenager, Christian Süß was with TSG in 1998/99. At the end of the 1999/2000 season, the team was withdrawn from the 2nd Bundesliga.

The table tennis department was founded in 1948 by Hermann Schlüter. Karl Kerckhoff was a department head for 30 years. At first there was only one men's team. In 1960, a women's team was reported for the first time. In 1982 the women played in the district class. After that, they rose every year until they finally reached the 1st Bundesliga in 1988. The manager at this time was Manny Malta, who was replaced by Siegfried Schmitz in 1990.
