Marcos Freitas (* 8. April 1988 in Funchal ) is a Portuguese table tennis - national team . He was European champion in doubles in 2011 and in the team in 2014 and qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in 2008 , 2012 and 2016 . In 2015 he won silver in the individual competition at the European Championships .
Career
Marcos Freitas was one of the best players in Europe in his youth. He won six titles at European Youth Championships: singles in 2002 and 2006, doubles in 2003 (with Antonin Schwarzer, CZE), 2004 (with Tiago Apolónia ) and 2005 (with Tomislav Kolarek, HRV) and in mixed 2005 (with Daniela Dodean , ROU).
At the European Adult Championships Marcos Freitas reached the semi-finals in doubles with Tiago Apolónia in 2008 . In the same year he qualified for participation in the individual competition of the Summer Olympics . In 2011 he became European champion in doubles with Andrej Gaćina . He also took part in the Summer Olympics in 2012 , in 2014 he won the DHS Europe Cup and the European Team Championships , the ranking tournament Europe TOP-16 and in 2015 he came second at the European Championships .
Since 2004 (until 2017) he was represented at all fourteen table tennis world championships , in singles and doubles he reached the round of 16 several times. With the team, his first result was 34th place, which has been continuously improved over the years. In 2014 and 2016 , the team made it to the quarter-finals. At the 2016 Olympic Games he reached the quarter-finals in the individual, but in the team competition the Portuguese team was eliminated in the first round against the reigning European champions Austria .

Marcos Freitas played from 1994 to 2003 with the Portuguese club Grupo Desportivo do Estreito, then until 2006 with the Clube Desportivo de São Roque. In 2006 he moved to the German Bundesliga for TTC Jülich , joined the Borussia Düsseldorf club in 2008 and won the German championship and the Champions League with its men's team . A year later he returned to TTC Jülich. In the 2010/2011 season he played for TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen , from 2011 to 2018 he was active in France at AS Pontoise-Cergy TT , with which he won its first two Champions League titles in 2014 and 2016 and became French champion several times. In 2018 he moved to the Russian club Gazprom Fakel Orenburg .
