Kristian Karlsson (* 6. August 1991 in Trollhättan ) is a Swedish table tennis - national team .

Career

Kristian Karlsson started playing for his hometown club at the age of 8, until he moved from there at the age of 16 and finally joined Halmstad BTK in 2011 . In 2012 he won the silver medal in doubles with Mattias Karlsson at the European Championships . The following year he made it into the top 100 in the world and moved to the top French club AS Pontoise-Cergy TT , with which he was runner-up and Champions League winner in 2014 and champion in 2015. In 2014 he also made it to the semi-finals of the European Championship with the national team and in December reached number 39 in the world list, making him the best-placed Swedish player for the first time. At the Polish Open 2015 he won his first gold medal on the World Tour in doubles with Mattias Karlsson.

In 2016 he came fourth in the Europe Top-16 and won the French championship and Champions League double with Pontoise-Cergy . For the following season 2016/17 he moved to the German Bundesliga club and record champions Borussia Düsseldorf . With the national team, he reached the quarter-finals at both the World Cup and the Olympic Games , and in singles he reached the last 32 at the Olympics. In October he took part in the World Cup for the second time and was (as the best European player) Fourth, at the European Championships he won bronze in doubles and made it to the round of 16 in singles, where he was defeated by the reigning runner-up and former team-mate from Pontoise Marcos Freitas . As a result, he achieved a new personal record in the world rankings with 22nd place. At the 2017 World Cup , he was surprisingly eliminated in the first round against Liao Cheng-Ting , but with the team he won the first World Cup medal for Sweden since 2001 with bronze in 2018 . In 2019 he made it to the World Cup quarter-finals in doubles with Mattias Falck and won bronze and silver at the European Games with the team .
