The 37th European Table Tennis Championships took place from 18 to 23 September, 2018 in the Spanish Alicante instead. Only the individual competitions were held.
The defending champions were Emmanuel Lebesson (men) and Melek Hu (women) in the singles, Patrick Franziska / Jonathan Groth (men), Kristin Lang / Sabine Winter (women) and João Monteiro / Daniela Dodean-Monteiro (mixed) in the doubles .
Attendees
Each association could register two players for the mixed competition, as well as four doubles players per gender and, depending on their placement at the last European team championship , two to five individual players. Different players could be entered in the singles and doubles competitions, mixed national doubles were allowed.

In the individual competitions, 32 players were seeded for the main field played in the knockout system , the other players competed against each other in a group phase with at least four players per group to determine the remaining 32 participants in the main field.
In the doubles competitions, 16 pairs were seeded for the main field, the remaining doubles competed against each other in a knockout qualifying round to determine the remaining 16 pairs of participants in the main field.
All doubles from the main round and all singles were played in best-of-7 mode , all doubles in qualification and all mixed doubles in best-of-5 mode.
