Fu Yu (table tennis player)

Fu Yu (born November 29, 1978 in the Chinese province of Hebei ) is a Chinese- born Portuguese table tennis player . She became Vice European Champion in 2016 and took part in the 2016 Olympic Games .

Career

Fu Yu was born in China in Hebei Province. In 1998 she left China for Spain. She has lived in Portugal since 2001, where she married and received Portuguese citizenship in 2013.

Fu Yu won a total of three medals at the 2013, 2015 and 2016 European Championships. In 2013 she reached the semi-finals in the singles, in which she was defeated by the Swede Li Fen . In 2015 she again won bronze in singles. This time she lost in the semifinals to the Dutchwoman Li Jie . In 2016 she made it to the final, where she had to let Turkish Melek Hu win.

In 2016 she qualified to participate in the Olympic Games . Here she was eliminated in the second round against the Thai Nanthana Komwong . With the French club Metz TT she reached the final of the ETTU Cup in 2014/15 . In 2019 she was signed by the Bundesliga club TTC Berlin , which she left in 2020 for SV DJK Kolbermoor .

In February 2015 she was ranked 15th in the ITTF world rankings , her best position so far (February 2019).
