Nanthana Komwong

Nanthana Komwong ( Thai นันท นา คำ วงศ์ , RTGS Nanthana Khamwong ; born September 13, 1980 in the province of Lampang ) is a Thai table tennis player . So far (2016) she has participated in 15 world championships and four Olympic Games . From 2007 to 2011 she played in the German Bundesliga .

Career

Right-hander Nanthana Komwong won the national championship of Thailand several times. From 1999 to 2015 she took part in 15 world championships, but never came close to medal ranks.

At the Olympic Games from 2000 to 2012 she was represented in the individual competition every time. In 2000 she lost in the opening act to Shirley Zhou (Australia) and Geng Lijuan (China). In 2004 she won against Mouma Das (India) and Nicole Struse (Germany), after which she was eliminated by Viktoria Pavlovich (Belarus). In 2008 she survived the first round against Jenifer Qian (Dominican Republic) and then lost to the Japanese Haruna Fukuoka . She came just as far in 2012 when she first defeated the Portuguese Lei Mendes , but not the Czech Iveta Vacenovská .

Nanthana Komwong also qualified for participation in the 2016 Olympic Games . Here she won against Dina Meshref and Fu Yu , but was eliminated in the third round against Han Ying .

Her best position in the ITTF world rankings was 57th in December 2008.

Activities in Europe

Until 2007 Nanthana Komwong played for the French club Montpellier TT and then moved to the German Bundesliga for DJK TuS Holsterhausen . A year later she was signed by Hannover 96 , from 2009 to 2011 she competed for Hassia Bingen .
