Uladzimir Wiktarawitsch Samsonau , especially among English transliteration Vladimir Samsonov known ( Belarusian Уладзімір Віктаравіч Самсонаў , mostly Russian Владимир Викторович Самсонов / Vladimir Viktorovich Samsonov * 17th April 1976 in Minsk , Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic , USSR ) is a Belarusian table tennis pro . He was three times European champion in singles and won four times at the European ranking tournament TOP-12 . He won the Champions League and the European Cup thirteen times , three times with Borussia Düsseldorf , five times with Villette Charleroi and five times with his current club Gazprom Fakel Orenburg .
Career
Samsonau's first coach was the later Belarusian national coach Alyaksander Pyatkewitsch in 1983. He played internationally for the first time at the age of 11. At the European Schools and Youth Championships he won a total of 21 medals, 13 of which were gold. In the adult sector he was first noticed when he defeated Peter Karlsson from Sweden at the 1993 World Table Tennis Championships .
From 1994 he played in the German Bundesliga at Borussia Düsseldorf . Here he achieved the best result in the 1997/98 season in both singles (37: 6) and doubles (with Jörg Roßkopf 18: 3). In 2006, Samsonau was active in the Chinese Super League with a score of 4: 4.
In 1994 Uladsimir Samsonau made it into the TOP 30 of the world rankings (WRL) for the first time. In December 1994 he was ranked 26th in the WRL, in 1995 he made it into the TOP-10 of the WRL and in December was ranked 9. In doubles with Zoran Primorac , he won the Siber World Championship that year . His most successful period began in 1996 at the latest, at the end of the year he was third in the WRL behind Kong Linghui (CHN) and Liu Guoliang (CHN) and ahead of Jan-Ove Waldner (SWE) and Wang Tao (CHN). Not least because of his title of vice world champion in men's singles in 1997 in Manchester, he made it to number 1 in the world rankings for the first time in 1997. In 1998 he had to surrender this place to Liu Guoliang, Samsonau took second place ahead of Kong Linghui, Wang Liqin (CHN) and Jan-Ove Waldner. In 1999, the year of his first World Cup victory , he again made it to No. 1 in the WRL, followed by Kong Linghui and Liu Guoliang. With Zoran Primorac he also won bronze at the World Cup in doubles . After briefly slipping to 7th place in the world rankings in 2000, in the year of the introduction of the new ITTF computer world rankings it was again ranked 2nd in the WRL, behind Wang Liqin and ahead of Ma Lin (CHN), Liu Guozheng (CHN) and Kong Linghui . In 2001 he won the World Cup for the second time.
In 2003 he led the national team to their only European championship title to date and won the gold medal in the individual at the same time, just like at the next EM in 2005 . The third World Cup gold medal followed in 2009 , only Ma Lin was able to win this title more often - a total of four times - and only Wang Hao three times.
At the 2015 European Games , he won the silver medal and a bronze medal at the European Championship with the team.
