Liu Guozheng

Liu Guozheng (born March 7, 1980 in Wuhan ) is a Chinese table tennis player and trainer. He was twice world champion with the Chinese team.

Career

1997 Liu Guozheng was junior world champion in individual and with the team. From 1997 to 2005 he took part in seven world championships for adults. He was world champion with the Chinese team in 2001 and 2004 . He won silver three times, namely in 2000 in the team competition and in 2003 and 2005 in mixed with Bai Yang .

He was also successful several times at the Asian Championships . In 1998, 2000 and 2003 he won with the team, and in 2003 in a mixed with Li Nan .

In 2000 Liu Guozheng qualified for participation in the individual competition at the Olympic Games in Sydney. Here he defeated the Belgian Philippe Saive and the Taiwanese Chiang Peng-Lung , then retired in the quarter-finals against the Swede Jörgen Persson .

In the ITTF world rankings , Liu Guozheng was second from July to October 2001.

In 1999 Liu Guozheng was signed by the German Bundesliga club SV Plüderhausen . However, when it became known that he was illegally playing in a Chinese team at the same time, he lost his eligibility to play for Plüderhausen in January 2000.

In early 2006 he suffered a broken tibia, which is why he ended his active career in 2007.

Liu Guozheng has been the head coach of the Chinese national youth team since the beginning of 2012.
