Mikael Appelgren
Kent "Mikael" Appelgren (born October 15, 1961 in Stockholm , Sweden ) was one of the best table tennis players in the world in the 1980s and 1990s .
Career
The left-hander Mikael Appelgren was three times (1982, 1988, 1990) European champion in men's singles. He twice won the European ranking tournament "Europe-Top-12" (1982 and 1990). With the Swedish team, he won three world championships and five European championships. In 1983 he also won the World Cup. The four-time Swedish champion played for a few years in the German Bundesliga for SSV Reutlingen 05 (previously Spårvägen Stockholm) from 1980 and returned to Sweden in 1986. In 1996 he moved from Ängby SK Stockholm to TTF Bad Honnef , one year later to TTK Würzburger Hofbräu , and in 1999 he returned to Ängby SK Stockholm.
In 2012 Appelgren became senior world champion in the 50+ age group. From 2018 Appelgren will play for the Oldenburg TB in the regional league.
