Rüdiger Kirschstein

Rüdiger Kirschstein (born January 11, 1941 in Breslau ) is a German actor .

He grew up in Bavaria , the Ruhr area and Berlin . In 1945, at the age of four, he fled with his family of six from bombed Breslau to Bavaria. As a half-orphan, he stayed in an orphanage in Sulzbach-Rosenberg until he was twelve to attend secondary school. In 1952 the family moved to Essen in the Ruhr area , where he graduated from secondary school. At Priwall near Travemünde he was trained as a seaman in 1958 and then sailed the world's oceans on merchant ships for three years.

His thirst for adventure was only partially satisfied, the inclination towards the performing arts not at all. So he returned to Essen and began there, in the ensemble of the pantomime Jean Soubeyran (and in the Paris summer semesters with Marcel Marceau ) a training in pantomime, performed his own programs and took part in tours with the Soubeyran ensemble.

He then attended the Folkwang University of Applied Sciences in Essen, where, in addition to studying acting, he took part in the graphic, design, textile and photography departments as a guest student (this was where he met Rita Leska ).

This was followed by theater engagements at the Schauspielhaus Dortmund , Staatstheater Stuttgart (1968/1969), Schauspielhaus Zürich (1969/1970). There, together with Rita Leska, eight other actor colleagues and Peter Stein, he founded the “ Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer ” in Berlin with a permanent ensemble.

Guest performances have taken him to the Ruhr Festival Recklinghausen , the Schauspielhaus Bochum , the Schillertheater Berlin and trips to theaters in Milan, Florence, Zurich etc.

From 1973 he works as a freelance actor. Research trips and filming took him through all of Europe, North and South Africa, Namibia, Thailand and - apart from Brazil - all of Latin America; where he - together with Rita Leska - campaigned for socialist liberation movements, against military dictatorships and supported international solidarity campaigns for human rights.

He played in many TV productions, but his greatest success was probably with the series On Axis , in which he played one of the two main roles, the truck driver Günther Willers at the side of Manfred Krug . In addition to his role as Günther Willers, he played a major role in the editing and production of the scripts for the series On Axis. Before this role he played the assistant Franke in 1977 in the classic high school diploma with Nastassja Kinski and Christian Quadflieg in the series Tatort at the side of Inspector Finke ( Klaus Schwarzkopf ).

Rüdiger Kirschstein has starred in over 120 TV and cinema films.

Since 1995 Rüdiger Kirschstein has devoted himself to painting, which has already been exhibited in various locations. His studio is in the mountains of the Spanish Costa Blanca in his secluded finca . He lives there - together with his wife Rita Leska - and temporarily in Berlin-Kreuzberg .
