The table tennis World Cup 1999 took place in its 20th anniversary from 28 to 31 October at the Chinese Xiolan instead. Last time there was only one competition for men, after women’s competitions had already taken place in the three years before. Gold went to Vladimir Samsonov from Belarus .

mode

16 athletes took part in the competition, who were divided into four groups of four athletes each. The group first and second advanced to the main round, which was played in knockout mode. The semi-final losers played a game for third place. The game was played in the group phase with two winning sets, then (except in the third place match) with three winning sets.

Others

The 1999 World Cup was the last so far (as of 2019) in which no Chinese or Asian player could win a medal.

The Belarusian Federation was the eighth overall to win a World Cup gold medal with Vladimir Samsonov's victory, a number that has not increased since then.
