Liu Song (table tennis player)

Liu Song ( Chinese  劉松  /  刘松 , Pinyin Liú Sōng ; born May 12, 1972 in Guilin ) is a former Argentine table tennis player of Chinese origin.

Career

Liu started playing table tennis at the age of nine. He was a member of the Chinese national team between 1990 and 1994 and won the China Junior National Individual Championships in 1991.

In 1990 his family moved to Argentina and settled in the Floresta district of the city of Buenos Aires . Liu followed in 1995 and became an Argentine citizen. In 1996 he reached the semifinals of the US Open. He won all Argentine championships between 1995 and 2001, but moved between Argentina and Europe in 1997 to play professionally. He later moved to Bordeaux , where he has lived since 2001 and played for the local team SAG Cestas in France's premier league.

In his career, he represented his country four times at the Olympic Games and took part in a total of nine world championships . His other successes include gold medals at the Latin American Championships in individual (1998, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2010) and team (2006).

In the 1990s, Liu Song was also active in Germany. He became champions of the 2nd Bundesliga South with 1. FC Bayreuth in 1998 and then moved to Switzerland.
