Zoran Primorac (born May 10, 1969 in Zadar ) is a former Croatian table tennis player . He is three times vice world champion and two times European champion. Today (2012) he plays for the Russian club UMMC Verkhnaya Pyshma (formerly Yekaterinburg). In 2012 he became Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Croatia .

Beginning

At the age of 8, Zoran Primorac learned to play table tennis under the guidance of coach Tomislav "Tomo" Amižić in the Bagat Zadar club, which he left in 1985 for STK Vjesnik Zagreb, Caja Granada and UMMC Verkhnaya Pyschma. From 1984 he successfully played doubles with Ilija Lupulesku .

European Youth Championships

For the first time he took part in the European Youth Championships in 1983 and came third with the team. At the European Youth Championships in 1984 and 1985 he won the title in doubles with Ilija Lupulesku, and in 1984 they beat the German doubles Fetzner / Roßkopf in the final . In 1986 he won silver in mixed (with Emilia Ciosu ).

European championships

Since 1986 Primorac has participated in all European championships with the exception of 1996 . In 1990 he became European champion in doubles (with Lupulesku), in 1994 in mixed with Csilla Bátorfi . He finished second in 1988 in doubles (with Lupulesku), in 1994 in doubles (with Jean-Michel Saive ), in 1998 and 2000 in singles and in 2007 with the team.

World championships

Since 1987 Primorac has been nominated for all world championships . He was twice vice world champion in doubles, in 1987 with Ilija Lupulesku and in 1995 with Vladimir Samsonow . In 1991 he won silver with the team.

Olympic Summer Games

He also won silver in doubles at the 1988 Summer Olympics with Ilija Lupulesku . At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 Primorac took part in the Olympic table tennis competition for the sixth time and was thus a participant in all previous Olympic table tennis tournaments. For this achievement Zoran Primorac received an award together with the players Jörgen Persson and Jean-Michel Saive at the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008.

World Allstars Circuit

Zoran Primorac was also invited to several World Allstars Circuit events (tournament series) by the ITTF. Special services were:

  • 1st place in Guangzhou / CHN (Jun 1992)
  • 2nd place in Tadotsu / JPN (Jan 1994)
  • 2nd place in Hong Kong / HKG (Jun 1995)
  • 2nd place in Calcutta / IND (Sep 1995)

Japanese Super Circuit

Zoran Primorac also took part in the Japanese Super Circuit (tournament series) and achieved several outstanding successes between 2002 and 2006:

  • 1st place in Tokyo (Jun 2002)
  • 2nd place in Hiroshima (Sep 2002)
  • 1st place in Osaka (Sep 2002)
  • 1st place in Nara (Jan 2003)
  • 1st place in Hiroshima (Aug 2003)
  • 1st place in Osaka (Oct 2003)
  • 2nd place in Tokyo (Jan 2004)
  • 2nd place in Okayama (Jul 2006)
