At the European Games 2015 in Baku , Azerbaijan , four table tennis competitions were held from June 13th to 19th, 2015 , one team competition (with 16 teams) and one individual competition for men and women. The winners of the individual competitions qualified directly for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro .

team
The first round of the team competitions took place on June 13th, the quarter and semi-finals on June 14th, the game for third place and the final on June 15th.
The game was played according to the Olympic system : Each team consisted of three players who played in a double and up to four singles (each with 3 sets) until one team had won 3 points. Each player was allowed to play a maximum of twice per game, i.e. either in two singles or in a single and a double. There was no group stage, the game was played in a knockout system from the start.
Substitute players were not allowed according to the regulations, which was fatal for the German men's team: After the first round, Timo Boll had to cancel the tournament due to illness, so that the opponent had two points in every subsequent game and Boll's teammates Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Patrick Baum each one Had to win the game. Against Sweden this succeeded, but in the semi-final against France one game and thus the entire match was lost.

In the second round, the 16 winners from the first round then met the top 16 players, and the normal knockout system continued.
