Dmitrij Prokopcov (born January 5, 1980 in Simferopol ) is a Ukrainian - Czech table tennis player . From 1996 to 2017 he took part in 11 world championships , 13 European championships and once in the Olympic Games .

Career

Dmitrij Prokopcov was born in Ukraine and started playing table tennis at the age of six. He was two times Ukrainian champion in singles. In 1998 Prokopcov moved to the Czech club TJ Nová huť Ostrava. In the following period he fell out with the Ukrainian table tennis association because he refused to participate in national training camps because of better training conditions in Ostrava. Therefore, Prokopcov took part in an international tournament for the last time at the 2003 European Championship under the Ukrainian flag . He applied for naturalization in the Czech Republic.

In 2008 he received Czech citizenship and then represented the Czech Republic in international appearances. In 2010, 2011 and 2013 he was Czech champion in singles, in 2010 also in doubles. In 2001, 2004 and 2010 Prokopcov won the Prague Open. Between 2007 and 2011 Prokopcov won the Czech championship title in a row with the team from El Niňo Praha.

At the 2010 European Championships , he won bronze with the team. In 2016 he qualified to take part in the Olympic Games . Here he lost in the first round against the Nigerian Segun Toriola .

With the clubs TJ Nová huť Ostrava and SKK El Niňo Praha he played in the European super league from 2004 to 2011 . In the world rankings , he finished 49th in 2010. In August 2018, Prokopcov was removed from the national selection.

Private

Dmitrij Prokopcov has been married to Sabina Růžičková since 2011. At the wedding at Chvaly Castle , his team colleague Josef Simončík and the star hairdresser Jan Cigánik were present as groomsmen.
