Amelie Solja (born September 29, 1990 in Kandel ) is a German table tennis player who has been competing with an Austrian passport since 2011. In 2007 she became German champion in women's doubles.
Career
Amelie Solja started playing table tennis at TTC Büchelberg . Via the BTTF Zweibrücken she came to TTSV Fraulautern in Saarlouis , for whom she played in the table tennis Bundesliga until the 2008/09 season . From the 2009/10 season she competes with the same club in the regional league. She made her international debut in the European Championship qualification against Greece in November 2006, where she beat Maria Mirou 3-0. At the age of 16 she won her first German championship title in 2007 (in doubles with Tanja Hain-Hofmann ). In the same year she was third in the girls singles World Cup. Because of these successes, she was used for the first time in the women's national team in 2007. In total, she played seven international matches until 2008.
In 2010 Amelie Solja, whose grandmother comes from Austria, moved to TTC Villach in the Austrian Bundesliga because she no longer saw any prospects in the German national team. In April 2011 she received Austrian citizenship. This means that she can compete internationally for Austria, but at World Championships only from April 2018 (according to ITTF Handbook 2010/2011, section 4.01.03.03.03). A few months later she won the Austrian ranking tournament TOP-12 in Wels.
Since Amelie Solja started for Austria at the 2012 Olympic Games , she was allowed to take part in the individual competitions of the 2012 European Championships in accordance with an exception .
