Daniela Gergeltschewa
Daniela Gergeltschewa ( Bulgarian Даниела Гергелчева ; born July 20, 1964 in Momchilgrad , often in French. Daniela Guergueltcheva ) is a former Bulgarian table tennis player . In 1990 she won the European Championship in singles.
Career
Daniela Gergeltschewa began playing table tennis at the age of seven. In 1976 she won the national championships in both the female, male and female classes. At the age of 18 she moved to the Akademik Sofia association. Since she had no serious opponent in Bulgaria at that time, she played with a special permit in the men's team of this club in the first division.
In 1979 she reached the final at the European Youth Championships in Rome, which she lost to the Lithuanian Jolanta Danilevičiūtė .
Between 1979 and 1995 Gergeltschewa took part in eight world championships . It wasn't enough for medal ranks, the best placement was in 1989 reaching the semi-finals in doubles. In the tournament Europe TOP-12 she finished 3rd in 1986 and 1989, 4th in 1992. In 1988 and 1992 she represented Bulgaria at the Olympic Games.
Her greatest success was winning the 1990 European Championship in Gothenburg, Sweden, when she beat Tu Dai Yong (Switzerland) in the final. In this tournament she also won bronze in mixed (with Ding Yi ).
From 1989 she played in France in Montpellier.
Private
Daniela Gergeltschewa studied table tennis at the Sports University Sofia and then dealt with law.
