Otilia Bădescu
Otilia Bădescu (born October 31, 1970 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian table tennis player . She was multiple European champion.
youth
In 1985 Bădescu was the first Romanian champion in singles. She defended the title in 1986, 1987 and 1989. She won this championship five times in doubles: 1984, 1985, 1987 (each with Maria Alboiu ), 1988 (with Kinga Lohr ) and 1989 (with Maria Bogoslov ).
Already in 1983 she became European champion for pupils. She won further titles at European Youth Championships in 1984 in singles and doubles (with Kinga Lohr), 1985 in singles and doubles (with Emilia Ciosu ) and with the Romanian team, in 1987 in doubles (with Kinga Lohr) and in 1988 in singles and mixed (with Călin Creangă ).
Ladies
From 1985 to 2005, the only 1.60 m tall Bădescu took part in 12 world championships . In 1993 she reached the semi-finals in singles.
From 1986 to 2005 she was nominated nine times for European championships . After silver in singles in 1988, she won the title in 2003. In mixed she had already won the title in 1992 (with Călin Creangă ) and 1998 (with Ilija Lupulesku ). In 1992 and 2005 she won gold with the Romanian team. At the European Championships in 1990, Bădescu received the fair play trophy because she had admitted some edge balls to her disadvantage.
In 1995, Bădescu took first place in the European ranking tournament Europe TOP-12 . In 1992, 1996, 2000 and 2004 she took part in the Summer Olympic Games.
In autumn 2005 the Romanian national players Otilia Bădescu, Mihaela Șteff and Adriana Năstase-Simion-Zamfir refused to sign the contracts submitted by the Romanian table tennis association, according to which they forego 10% of the income from the ITTF Pro Tour in favor of the association should.
Activities abroad
Bădescu joined several foreign associations: Juroku Bank Ltd. (Japan; until 1998), SV Böblingen (1998/99), Postas Matav SE Budapest (2002), Montpellier TT. Elche (Spain). After losing to incumbent Cristinel Romanescu in the presidential elections of the Romanian Table Tennis Association on November 17, 2005 , she moved to Germany and played in the German women's league from 2006 to 2007 at the TTC Troisdorf club .
Private
Bădescu grew up in Bucharest. She has a younger brother, Mihai Badescu (1980), a tennis player.
