Marie Svensson

Marie Svensson (born August 9, 1967 in Simrishamn ) is a Swedish table tennis player . In 1994 she was European champion in singles.

Career

Marie Svensson achieved her first international success at the Nordic Championships ( North European & Nordic Championships ), where she won singles in 1986 and doubles in 1988 and 1990 (with Pernilla Pettersson and Charlotte Polk). In the 1990s she won the national Swedish championship several times, about 1992 to 1995 four times in a row in singles and 1992 to 1994 in doubles. From 1986 to 2000 she was nominated five times for European championships , where she celebrated her greatest triumphs. In 1994 in Birmingham she defeated the Dutch Gerdie Keen in the final and became European champion. At the EM 1998 she won silver in doubles with Otilia Bădescu (behind Nicole Struse / Elke Schall from Germany) and in mixed with Erik Lindh . Two years later she reached the final in mixed with the Yugoslav Ilija Lupulesku again .

From 1992 to 1998 she competed in the European ranking tournament TOP-12 every year . She convinced with second place in 1992 and third place in 1998. In the nine participations in world championships , she only got into the medal ranks in 1995 when she won bronze in mixed with Erik Lindh . In 1992 , 1996 and 2000 she qualified for participation in the Summer Olympics, where she was eliminated early.

Germany

Marie Svensson played for several years in German Bundesliga clubs. In the 1995/96 season she was obliged by TSV Röthenbach . She then returned to Sweden before joining FC Langweid in 1998 . From 2002 she went to France for the Montpellier TT. After the 2004/05 season with the then regional league club Müllermilch Langweid , she ended her active career.

Private

Marie Svensson's younger sister Åsa (born February 11, 1971) was also a national player with appearances in the German Bundesliga.
