The table tennis World Cup 2012 took place for the men in its 33rd edition from 28 to 30 September at the English Liverpool and for the women in his 16th host from 21 to 23 September at the Chinese Huangshi instead. Gold went to Ma Long and Liu Shiwen from China .

mode

19 athletes took part in each competition. The 15 best placed participants in the world rankings - the 14 best men and Liam Pitchford , number 17 from the English host association - took part in the World Cup group stage, divided into four groups of four athletes each. The remaining four participants played the remaining sixteenth place in the ICC group. The group first and second advanced to the main round, which was held in knockout mode. The semi-final losers played a game for third place.

Others

With Elizabeta Samara , a European woman reached the final of the World Cup for the first time . The 2012 World Cup was also the first and so far (as of 2019) the last, in which two medals did not go to Asia for women and two medals went to Europe.

With 11 World Cup appearances, Tie Yana set a new record for women.
