William Henzell
William Henzell (born March 23, 1982 in Bedford Park , South Australia ) is an Australian table tennis player who has performed internationally since 1999. So far (2016) he has participated in ten world championships and three Olympic Games .
Career
William Henzell was born in Bedford Park, a suburb of Adelaide , in 1982 . He made his first international appearance in 1999 at an ITTF Pro Tour tournament in Melbourne .
He was most successful at the Commonwealth tournaments and at the Oceania Championships . At Oceania Championships he won nine gold, two silver and four bronze medals. In 2004 he came to the semifinals of the Commonwealth Championships. In 2006 he reached the final of the Commonwealth Games in singles, which he lost against the Indian Kamal Sharath Achanta . From 2001 to 2012 William Henzell was represented at ten world championships , but never came close to medal ranks.
In 2004, William Henzell qualified for the first time to take part in the Olympic Games . Here he defeated the American Khoa Nguyen in the individual , but then lost to the Austrian Chen Weixing . The doubles with David Zalcberg won in the first round against Massimiliano Mondello / Yang Min (Italy) and then lost to the Dutch Trinko Keen / Danny Heister .
Also in 2008 he reached the second round by winning in the preliminary round against Idir Khourta (Algeria) and in round one over the Swede Jens Lundqvist in the individual, where he was eliminated against Yoon Jae-young from South Korea. With the team he came in 13th.
In 2012 he even survived two rounds in the individual. He won against Ádám Pattantyús (Hungary) and João Monteiro (Portugal), then ended up against Vladimir Samsonov from Belarus. With the team he came in ninth.
In 2008 William Henzell was inducted into the Australian Table Tennis Hall of Fame. In October 2012 he was ranked 90th in the ITTF world rankings .
In the mid-1990s he moved to Sweden, where he joined the Kalmar association and later Lyckerby. In 2006 he moved to Germany to FC Tegernheim, where he played in the 2nd Bundesliga South and made a significant contribution to winning the championship in the 2007/08 season (Tegernsee then renounced promotion to the 1st BL). In 2011 he left Tegernheim.
