Wong Chun Ting ( Chinese 黃鎮廷 / 黄镇廷 , Pinyin Huáng Zhèntíng , Jyutping Wong 4 Zan 3 ting 4 ; born September 7, 1990 in Hong Kong ) is a table tennis player from Hong Kong. He won bronze at the 2016 World Cup and in mixed with Doo Hoi Kem at the 2015 and 2017 World Championships .
Career
Wong Chun Ting first entered the world rankings in 2008 at the age of 17. Internationally, he has made more appearances since 2010 when he took part in a World Tour tournament for the first time at the Japan Open . In 2012 he competed in doubles with changing partners and won the German Open together with Jiang Tianyi . At his first World Cup in 2013 , he came in doubles with Tang Peng among the last 32. The duo also played together in 2014, won three World Tour titles and reached the semifinals at the World Tour Grand Finals. Between November 2013 and March 2014, Wong Chun Ting also improved by over 100 places to 44th place in the world rankings. In March 2015, he reached an individual final of a World Tour tournament at the Spanish Open for the first time and consequently reached 18th place in the world rankings At the 2015 World Cup he took 3rd place in mixed doubles with Doo Hoi Kem and was among the last 16 in singles and doubles (again with Tang Peng). The last opponents were Timo Boll and the later silver medalists Fan Zhendong / Zhou Yu . In the individual competition of the Asian Championships, he came to the semi-finals. After defeating Jun Mizutani at the Polish Open in October , he overtook Tang Peng in the world rankings in November 2015, making him the best-placed player from Hong Kong.
At the 2016 World Cup , he was part of the Hong Kong team, which improved on the previous World Cup and reached the quarter-finals. As a result, Wong Chun Ting improved further in the world rankings and achieved a position in the top 10 for the first time with rank 9. In the Asian Cup, he finished third and qualified for the first time for the World Cup , where he won bronze. He also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , came in the singles round of 16, where he lost 3: 4 to Kōki Niwa , and with the team in the quarter-finals. At the end of 2016, he played in the Chinese Super League , where he achieved scores of 1: 9 (singles) and 8: 6 (doubles). At the 2017 World Championships , he again won bronze in mixed, at the Grand Finals he and Ho Kwan Kit reached the final of the doubles competition, which they lost in the extension of the decisive set against Masataka Morizono / Yūya Ōshima . They also won the silver medal at the Grand Finals 2018, where Wong also won gold in mixed with Doo Hoi Kem.
