Zhou Yu ( Chinese  周 雨 , Pinyin Zhōu Yǔ ; born May 19, 1992 in Siyang , Jiangsu Province , People's Republic of China ) is a Chinese table tennis player . In 2013 he took part in the World Championship for Adults for the first time and won a bronze medal in doubles with Wang Liqin .

Career

Since there were no prospects for Zhou Yu in his native Jiangsu, he moved to Henan Province at the age of eight, where he attracted attention as the best player in his age group. At the end of 2007 he became a youth international. In 2012, he won the Chinese National Adult Championship.

He appeared internationally in 2009 when he won the World Junior Cup in Hong Kong in singles. This was followed by victories at the 2010 Asian Youth Championships in singles and with the team as well as in the team competition of the 2010 Youth World Championships, where he also reached the semi-finals in singles, doubles and mixed.

In 2019, Zhou Yu was banned from the Chinese Table Tennis Association for three months because he partially tore off his racket at the Hungary Open and then wanted to continue playing with a replacement racket . However, the rules only allow the bat to be replaced if it has been accidentally damaged ("International Table Tennis Rules B", May 2017, Section 4.2.4).
