Lee Sang-su (born August 13, 1990 ) is a South Korean table tennis player . He plays for Samsung Life Insurance. At world championships he won bronze once in singles, twice bronze in doubles and twice in teams and once silver in mixed .

Career

Lee Sang-su achieved several successes in international youth tournaments. At the Asian Youth Championships in 2006 he was first with the Korean team and in 2008 in the individual. He also won three silver medals at the World Youth Championships, namely in 2007 and 2008 in the team competition and in 2008 in doubles with Seo Hyun-deok . He won his first medals on the World Tour - gold in singles and bronze in doubles - at the Slovenia Open in 2010, in which he also made it into the top 100 of the world rankings . In doubles with Seo Hyun-deok, he also won bronze at the Grand Finals. After the Korea Open 2011, where he won silver, he reached 22nd place in the world rankings, a new record that he was only able to improve four years later.

In 2013 he was nominated for a World Cup for adults for the first time. Here he reached the final in mixed with Park Young-sook . In 2015 he won bronze in doubles with Seo Hyun-deok . Since August 2015 he is represented in the top 20 of the world rankings. At his first team world championship in 2016 , he reached the semifinals with South Korea.

He qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games , but was eliminated in singles after a 3: 4 defeat against Adrian Crișan . With the team he reached fourth place after a semi-final defeat against China and a defeat against Germany. In October he took part in the World Cup for the first time and reached the quarter-finals. Together with Jung Young-sik , with whom he has competed in doubles since 2016, he won gold at the 2016 Grand Finals and bronze at the 2017 World Championships . There he reached after victories among others over Zhang Jike , Vladimir Samsonov and Wong Chun Ting also as the only non-Chinese player the semi-finals in the individual, where he was eliminated against Fan Zhendong . This made him the best-placed South Korean player in the world for the first time. At the German Open in November he advanced to the semi-finals after victories over the top 10 players Jun Mizutani and Xu Xin, among others . In December, he was among the top 10 in the world rankings for the first time. Place at the Asian Cup in April 2018, he qualified again for the World Cup . With the team he reached the semi-finals at the World Cup , which were lost to Germany .
