Jozef Gönci (born March 18, 1974 in Košice ) is a former Slovak sports shooter .

Jozef Gönci took part in five Olympic Games . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he finished 28th with the air rifle. With the small caliber rifle, he reached the final in prone position as well as in the three-position fight, which he finished in fifth place in the latter. In the prone position he won the bronze medal with 701.9 points behind Christian Klees and Sergei Beljajew . Four years later he finished eleventh with the air rifle and eighth in the three-position fight with the small bore rifle in Sydney . In Athens , he qualified in 2004 with the air rifle for the first time for the final. With 697.4 points, he won another bronze medal behind Zhu Qinan and Li Jie . In the small-caliber disciplines he missed another medal win as fourth in the prone position, in the three-position battle he missed the finals in ninth place. In 2008 in Beijing , Gönci did not get past 37th place in the three-position battle and 16th place in the prone position with the small bore. Also at his last Olympic participation in London in 2012 , when he acted as the flag bearer of the Slovak delegation at the opening ceremony, he finished in the lower places in the qualifications. With the air rifle and small bore rifle in three positions he reached only 31 square, in the prone position it was enough even for rank 39th

With world championships to Gönci 1998 secured in Barcelona four medals. With the small-bore rifle he became world champion in the individual in the three-position fight, while he secured bronze with the team in the prone position. With the air rifle he was runner-up in both the individual and team competition. He also won several titles at European championships. In 1999 Gönci was named Slovak Sportsman of the Year for winning the World Cup .
