The Kühnauer Park (also Burg Kühnauer Garten , Großkühnauer Schlosspark ) is part of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm , which was established in the second half of the 18th century under the reign of Prince Leopold III. Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau (1740-1817) was created. Today it is located in the Großkühnau district of Dessau- Roßlau . In the local register of monuments , the park is listed as a historical building under registration number 094 40213 .

history

The original park was created from 1753 to 1764 by Johann Leopold Ludwig Schoch . A park extension around the southern shore of the Kühnauer See and several artificial islands took place in 1805. Thus, the Amaliensitz was connected to the Georgengarten. The vineyard house in the terrace vineyard was built from 1819 to 1821 by Ignazio Pozzi . The last expansion and reconstruction took place in the middle of the 19th century.

The park is located on the northern edge of the village. The northern part of the park is formed by Lake Kühnau and at the western end is the Großkühnau Castle , which is a listed building . The eastern end of the park is at the Rapunzel Tower. The Löwentor and the Knight's Gate are located on Burgkühnauer Strasse, which largely forms the southern edge of the park. The village's Evangelical Church borders the southern edge of the park. To the north of the vineyard house is a memorial to Prince Albert Friedrich von Anhalt-Dessau .

To the northeast of the park are the remains of the Kühnau Wallburg in the Burgwallwiesen.
