Christian Klees

Christian Klees (born June 24, 1968 in Eutin ) is a former German marksman. From 1987 to 2001 he was a member of the national team of the German Shooting Association and was active as a trainer and deputy treasurer for the Eutin sport shooters until 2011.

In 1993 Klees became German champion in the three-position fight with the small-bore rifle. In 1994 he became German champion with the standard rifle and third in the world championship with the small bore rifle lying down. In 1995 Klees and the team won the European championship in the three-position battle.

The administrative clerk achieved his greatest success at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta . Back then, he won the first gold medal for Germany while lying in a small caliber. With 704.8 rings in the final, he set a new world record , which was only set by Sjarhej Martynau at the 2012 Olympic Games in London .

For winning the gold medal in 1996, he received the silver laurel leaf from Federal President Roman Herzog .

The "Christian-Klees-Halle" in the youth leisure and education center of the Ostholstein district in Scharbeutz was named after him.
