Ri Ho-jun ( kor. 리 호준) or Li Ho-Jun , (born December 1, 1946 ) is a North Korean soldier in the Korean People's Army and marksman . He won the first ever Olympic gold medal for his country at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich .

Life

Ri Ho-jun was born in 1946 in what is now North Korea, his place of birth is unknown. He served in the Korean People's Army and began his sports career as a marksman.

In 1972, North Korea sent a delegation to the Summer Games for the first time. In the small-bore shooting discipline (50 m , prone), he set a new world record with 599 rings . He later took part in the 1976 Summer Olympics ( Montreal ) and the 1980 Summer Olympics ( Moscow ), but never won a medal.

Remarks

After winning the gold medal, he stated that when aiming at the targets , he was thinking of adversaries of the class enemy ( South Korea ).
