Vinicio Villani

Vinicio Villani (* 1935 in Lussinpiccolo , today Croatia ; † February 3, 2018 ) was an Italian mathematician who studied biomathematics , geometry, topology and mathematics didactics .

Villani studied mathematics from 1953 at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa with the Laurea at the University of Pisa in 1957. From 1966 he held the chair of geometry at the University of Genoa and Pisa. He later switched to the chair for mathematics didactics. He held courses on biostatistics at the medical faculty. He then taught at the Scuola di Specializzazione per Insegnanti Secondari della Toscana in Pisa.

From 1982 to 1988 he was President of the Unione Matematica Italiana . 1974 to 1979 he was President of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI).
