Iosif Sîrbu (born September 21, 1925 in Șibot , † September 6, 1964 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian sports shooter .
successes
Iosif Sîrbu took part in three Olympic Games with the small bore rifle. In 1952 in Helsinki he finished sixth in the three-position battle with 1161 points. Like Boris Andrejew , he hit the maximum possible score of 400 points in the prone position. In the subsequent counting of the perfect hits in the middle of the target, he prevailed with 33 perfect hits against 28 hits by Andrejew. So Sîrbu was Olympic champion before Andrejew and Arthur Jackson . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 , where he served as the flag bearer of the Romanian delegation at the opening ceremony, he finished the competition in the three-position fight in seventh place and in the prone position in fifth place. Four years later in Rome he reached twelfth place in the three-position fight and tenth place in the prone position.
In 1958, Sîrbu, who competed for Steaua Bucharest during his career , was vice world champion in the team competition in Moscow in a lying position . At the national level, he won over 50 titles.
