successes

László Hammerl took part in four Olympic Games . At the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964 , he scored 597 points with the small- bore rifle in the prone position, just like the tied Lones Wigger . Since he had scored one hit more than Wigger in the penultimate round, Hammerl was awarded the gold medal and thus the Olympic victory. In the three-position fight he got 1151 points, with which he placed behind Wigger and Welitschko Welitschkow on the bronze rank. Four years later in Mexico City he finished the three-position battle in 13th place, while he also scored 598 points in the prone position , as did Jan Kůrka . This time Hammerl was left behind when counting the last lap, as Kůrka had scored one more goal. Hammerl thus received the silver medal. In 1972 he finished the competition in Munich in the prone position in eighth place and in the three-position fight in 17th place. At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal , he only appeared in the lying position and did not get past 37th place in this. Hammerl secured his only medal at world championships in 1974 in Thun when he won bronze with the team while standing.

He is married to the marksman Éva Fórián , who also took part in the Olympic Games four times. His uncle József Sir was also an Olympic athlete in 1936. In 1968 he graduated from Semmelweis University in medicine, and in 1973 he passed his specialist examination in ear, nose and throat medicine .
