life and career

Anderson Lim was born in 1995 in the Brunei capital Bandar Seri Begawan and attended, among other things, from 2007 to 2011 the Jerudong International School in Jerudong, which is a little more than 20 kilometers from his hometown . Already during this time Lim was a successful swimmer who had already set various national records in his age group and in the adult area. In the year of his graduation, he took part in the four disciplines of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games: 50m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 100m butterfly and 200m butterfly. He achieved 20th place in 50m butterfly and 100m freestyle, as well as 16th place in 100m butterfly and 12th place in 200m butterfly. In the same year, between mid-July and the end of July, as a 15-year-old, he took part in the 200 m freestyle and 400 m freestyle competitions at the 2011 World Swimming Championships , although he did not make it past the semifinals in either competition.

From Jerudong he moved to the private university preparatory and boarding school Bolles School in Jacksonville , Florida . In the US school he was part of the Bulldogs swimming program and as a member set a new national record for the 200 meters freestyle in May 2012 when he swam a time of 2: 05.63 in a competition at the FGCU Aquatics Center surpassed his record time of 2: 06.40, which was achieved last year at the World Swimming Championships in Shanghai . In this tournament, which was the last qualifying event for the 2012 Olympic Games , he achieved a total of three different personal bests and finally took part in the London Olympics as a member of the three-man Brunei athlete contingent . At the opening ceremony, Lim, who was trained by Christian Manfred Bahr from October 2011 , was the flag bearer of his home country and at the age of 16 was also the youngest Brunei participant in the Olympic history of Brunei . Since the Brunei Sultanate only received four accreditations for the Olympic village, the accreditations had to be exchanged between the personal trainer of the Brunei athletes depending on the competition, with Bahr replacing the team manager Hj Besar Hj Omar on the day of the swimming competition .

At the 30th Olympic Games, the 1.66 m tall athlete took part in the preliminaries to the 200 m freestyle , setting a new national record in prelim 1 with a time of 2: 02.26 minutes, third out of a total of three participants however, was eliminated from the current competition. In the overall classification of the 200 m freestyle, however, he only finished 40th and last place. At the beginning of October 2012, the Bruneier took part in short course championships in Peru , where he set four new national records and one personal best in five different competitions. In November 2012, the Brunei Swimming Association announced that Lim would be participating in the 2012 Short Course World Championships in Istanbul , one month later . Although he performed well at the short course world championships, he could not record any new records, but in the 200 meter freestyle he was close to a personal best and a national record with 2: 00.74.

In 2013, after setting several national records at Bolles School, Lim moved to the University of Rochester , where he also appeared on the UR YellowJackets swim team and had a solid year as a freshman. In December 2013, he achieved top 16 placings in five Liberty League Championships competitions and in the 2013/14 school year won, among other things, the championships in the 4 × 100 meter freestyle relay, was fourth in the 200 meter freestyle and eighth in the 500 meters Freestyle and 200 meter butterfly. Over 100 meters butterfly it was enough for a ninth place at the school championships. Furthermore, Anderson Lim took part in the fourth Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Incheon , South Korea , from late June to early July 2013 . Lim competed in the disciplines of 100 meters butterfly, 100 meters freestyle and 200 meters freestyle, in the latter discipline he clearly exceeded his national record of 2: 00.50 with a time of 1: 58.84, which was set in Peru on October 4, 2012, and thus a new one the Bruneian record.

Currently (as of May 11, 2015) Anderson Lim is in his second year of school (sophomore) at the U of R.
