Ibrahim Turay

Ibrahim Turay (born September 4, 1993 in Waterloo , Western Area ) is a Sierra Leonean athlete . He took part in the 200-meter run at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , but was eliminated there in prelim 2 in eighth place with a time of 21.90 seconds, but set a personal best. There he was also the flag bearer of his country at the graduation ceremony .

In addition to Ola Sesay , born in 1979, who competed in the long jump , he was one of two Sierra Leonean athletes who took part in the 2012 Olympic Games.

Life & Career

Turay was born in 1993 in the city of Waterloo, around 30 kilometers southeast of the capital Freetown , and began his athletics career in his home country, where he was mainly trained as a sprinter. On October 7, 2010, he turned, just turned 17 years of age, his personal best in the 400-meter race , where he wore at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India New Delhi came up with a time of 50.96 seconds. Four days later, he set two other personal bests in the 4 × 100 m relay race (44.11 seconds) and 4 × 400 m relay race (3: 23.68 minutes). In 2012 Turay took part in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London as one of two Sierra Leonean athletes . At the time of participation, he was a member of the Sierra Peace Athletics Club from the capital Freetown and was trained by his compatriot Abu White Kamara. His brother Bernard Turay also made the trip to London, where he was accredited as a journalist and acted as the press spokesman for the Sierra Leonean athletes. While his compatriot was already qualified for the main competition at the Olympic Games, Ibrahim Turay, who had previously participated in an IAAF training camp in Senegal , had to start in a preliminary run. The Sierra Leonean competed in preroll 2 , where he achieved a time of 21.90 seconds and thus a personal best, but was the last to drop out of the group of eight participants without taking part in the main competition.

In 2013, the 1.85 m tall athlete, who speaks French in addition to his official language, English, set another personal best. Before that, however, a club change occurred after the Olympic Games; so he moved from Sierra Peace AC from Freetown in Sierra Leone to Reading AC in English Reading . Before that, however, he completed his training at the Institute of Business Administration and Technology in Freetown, where he was trained in communication science and communication technology. At Reading AC , the Sierra Leonean has been a member of the U-23 squad since he changed club. He achieved a time of 15.58 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles in Stoke-on-Trent on August 3, 2013. Throughout 2013, he mainly participated in events and meetings of the British Athletics League and the Southern Men's League . He recorded further individual bests in the following year 2014, with a time of 7.03 seconds in the 60-meter run in the hall in Eton on February 1 during the Winter Series of the Windsor, Slough, Eton & Hounslow Athletic Club . He also achieved a time of 22.60 seconds in the 200-meter indoor run at the Birmingham Games in Birmingham on February 16 . He also took part in the London Indoor Games 2014 U20 at the Lee Valley Athletics Center earlier this year , where he competed in the 400-meter run.
