Annabel Laure Ali (also Annabelle Laure Ali , Laure Annabel Ali , Laure Annabelle Ali , Laure Ali Annabel , Annabel Ali , Laure Ali ; born March 4, 1985 in Garoua / Cameroon) is a wrestler from Cameroon . She is an Olympian in Beijing in 2008 and in London in 2012.

Career

Annabel Laure Ali is an African wrestler who made the leap into the extended world class. She started wrestling in Cameroon but later moved to France and is a member of the INSEP Paris sports club . She is mainly trained by Isaac Mpia. At a height of 1.76 meters, she wrestles in the heaviest weight class in women's wrestling, which has its limit at 72 kg body weight.

She made her debut on the international wrestling mat in 2005 at the Commonwealth Championships in Stellenbosch / South Africa. She won over the Indian Jyoti. In 2007 she started in Baku for the first time at a World Cup. In her first fight, she met the multiple Japanese world champion Kyoko Hamaguchi , against whom she showed a very good fight and was only slightly defeated on points (1: 2 rounds, 1: 3 points). Since Kyoko Hamaguchi did not reach the final, Annabel Laure Ali was eliminated and came in 19th place.

In 2008 she won her first international medal, namely a bronze medal, at the African Championships in Tunis behind Amarachi Obiajunwa, Nigeria and Sabrine Mathelouthi, Tunisia. In the same year she also managed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Beijing through good placements at the tournaments in Edmonton and Haparanda. In Beijing, she then lost her first fight against Agnieszka Wieszczek-Kordus from Poland and finished in 16th place. In 2008 she started at the World Championships in Tokyo, but also there she lost her first fight against Alena Starodubzewa from Russia and ended up in 12th place.

In 2009 she became the African champion for the first time in Casablanca. She referred Sonja Coetzee from South Africa and Enass Moustafa from Egypt to their places. In August 2009 she became world champion in beach wrestling in Obzor / Bulgaria in the weight class over 70 kg in front of Bulgarian Elina Wasewa. Although this title does not have the status of a world championship title in Olympic wrestling, Annabel Laure Ali's victory in this competition is still remarkable. At the 2009 World Championships in Hering / Denmark, she achieved her first victory in such a championship. She won over Darja Karpenko from Kazakhstan. However, she lost her second fight against Swetlana Sajenko from the Ukraine, eliminated and finished in 9th place.

In January 2010 she reached a very good 2nd place at the busy Golden Grand Prix in Krasnoyarsk. She only lost there in the final against Jekaterina Bukina, but left such good wrestlers as Gelegdschamtsyn Narantschimeg from Mongolia and Stanka Slatewa Christowa , a multiple world champion from Bulgaria, behind. In June 2010, Annabel Laure Ali became African champion for the second time in Cairo. At the 2010 World Cup in Moscow, she gave the local favorite Ekaterina Bukina a really big fight, which she just lost 1: 2 rounds with a 3: 3 point tie. However, since Jekaterina Bukina missed the final, she did not make it into the consolation round and ended up in 11th place. In October 2010 she won the silver medal behind Ohenewa Akuffo from Canada at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi .

In 2011, Annabel Laure Ali became African champion for the third time in Dakar ahead of Amarachi Obiajunwa. In September 2011 she started at the World Championships in Istanbul, where she achieved 5th place, the best result of her career. On the way to this success she first lost to Jekaterina Bukina, then defeated Gelegdschamtsyn Narantschimeg and the junior world champion Cynthia Vanessa Vescan from France, before she lost in the battle for a bronze medal against Wassilisa Marsalijuk from Belarus. With this 5th place she also qualified for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

In March 2012 Annabel Laure Ali had to bow to the Senegalese Oliviane Bassene in the final of the African Championship in Marrakech. At the Olympic Games in London in 2012, she won a victory over Josiane Patricia Soloniaina from Madagascar, then lost to Stanka Slatewa Christowa, but was able to continue in the consolation round, in which she was defeated again by Vasilisa Marsalijuk. It took 7th place.

After a somewhat longer break, she started at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Nice in 2013, where she came in third behind the Canadians Veronica Keefe and Cynthia Vanessa Vescan.
