World Wrestling Championships 2008
The Wrestling World Championships 2008 took place from October 11 to 13, 2008 in the Kokuritsu Yoyogi Kyōgijō in Tokyo . Because of the Olympic Games in the same year, only women's competitions were held. As in the 2004 Olympic Games , the women only competed in four weight classes , so it was decided to organize separate world championships. Japan celebrated athletes on the podium in all 7 competitions. In the -55 kg weight class, Anna Zwirydowska from Poland first won the bronze medal. However, because of a violation during the doping test, she was subsequently disqualified and the medal was awarded to the Canadian Britanee Laverdure .
