World Wrestling Championships 1989

The Wrestling World Championships 1989 took place from August 24 to September 3, 1989 in Martigny . It was wrestled in both Greco-Roman and free styles . The wrestlers were divided into ten weight classes per style , while the women competed in nine weight classes.

Greco-Roman

The Greco-Roman style competitions took place from August 24th to 27th, 1989. Of the Soviet wrestlers who started, only Syarhej Dzjamjaschkewitsch missed a medal rank as fifth in the -90 kg weight class.

Women

The women's competitions took place from August 24th to 25th, 1989. There were 53 wrestlers from 13 nations at the start, including Sandra Schrenker , the only German woman who came fourth in the -65 kg weight class. While there were nine participants in the -57 kg weight class, there were only two in the -75 kg weight class, so no bronze medals were awarded there.
