Gudrun Annette Høie (born July 13, 1970 ) is a Norwegian wrestler . She became world champion four times .

Career

Gudrun Annette Høie was one of the first Norwegian athletes to start women's wrestling. That was in 1986. She also joined the Kristiansund Atlete Club , which she still belongs to today. Her first trainer was Gabbe Kantor. In the course of her long career, she was a total of fourteen Norwegian champions in various weight classes. At times she also worked as a sumo fighter. In 1998 she even became European champion in this sport . She achieved her greatest successes in her career as a wrestler in the early 1990s when she won a number of international titles. In the years 1994 to 1997 she did not contest international championships because she devoted herself to her medical studies during these years. Today she is a doctor in a hospital in Kristiansund and trains the youngsters in her sports club.

She began her international career at the age of seventeen at the 1987 World Cup in Lørenskog / Norway. These were the first ever world championships for women. She took 5th place in the weight class up to 50 kg. In 1988 she was Junior World Champion in Dijon in the same weight class. In 1989 she became world champion for the first time in the weight class up to 57 kg in Martigny . She referred Riyoko Sakae from Japan and Inge Krasser from Switzerland to the next places.

In 1990 she also won the World Championships in Luleå . In the weight class up to 57 kg she won there in front of Olga Marina Lugo Guardia from Venezuela , Riyoko Sakae and Tu Chun-Chou from Taiwan . In 1991, Gudrun Annette Hoie had to be content with second place at the world championships in Tokyo behind Olga Marina Lugo Guardia, which she took ahead of Marine Roy, France and Huang Ai-Chin, Taiwan.

In 1993 Gudrun Annette Hoøie succeeded in winning her third world title in Stavern / Norway. She won in Stavern in the weight class up to 57 kg in front of Olga Marina Lugo Guardia, Huan Ai-Chin and Natalja Vinogradowa from Russia .

After this world championship she was inactive until 1997 because of her medical degree.

In 1998 she returned to the international wrestling stage with a bang, because she became the fourth time world champion in Poznan . In the weight class up to 56 kg, she defeated Tina George from the United States , Tatiana Lasarewa from Ukraine and Anna Gomis from France.

In the years that followed, she was unable to fully build on the great successes of the 1990s. But she still won medals at several international championships. In 1999 she won a bronze medal in the weight class up to 56 kg at the World Championships in Hildursborg / Sweden . In 2000 she was runner- up in Budapest in the weight class up to 62 kg, where she was defeated in the final against Nikola Hartmann-Dünser from Austria . She won her last medal at an international championship in 2002, when she came third at the 2002 European championship in Seinäjoki / Finland .

In 2004 and 2008 Gudrun Annette Hoie tried to qualify for participation in the Olympic Games in Athens and Beijing , both times to no avail. In 2004 she even trained in the Olympic weight class up to 48 kg. Obviously, the loss of substance was too great. In 2007, a shadow fell on her career because she was convicted of doping that year and banned for a year. The lack of practice in international tournaments was missing from the 2008 Olympic qualification tournaments.

You still struggled until 2010, but could not achieve any great success. For her services to the sport of wrestling , she was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame in August 2012 .
