Sara Eriksson (wrestler)

Sara Eriksson (born January 23, 1974 in Luleå ) is a former Swedish wrestler .

Eriksson, who grew up in Töre in northern Sweden, later wrestled with OIS Gothenburg . She was already world-class at the age of 17 and won her first world championship medal at the age of 20. In 1995 and 1996 Eriksson was world champion in the class up to 57 kg, in 1996 she also won the European Championship. She also won the European title in 2000 and 2002. At world championships, she won three medals after her two titles. Most recently she finished second in 2002 behind Kaori Icho . When an Olympic wrestling tournament for women was held for the first time in 2004 , Eriksson was at the start, but dropped out early and only finished tenth. In September 2014 she was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for her services to the sport of wrestling .
