Stavern (1799-1930 Fredriksvern ) is a south-Norwegian port city, the municipality of Larvik in Fylke (Province) Vestfold og Telemark belongs. It has 5678 inhabitants (as of 2018).

Stavern was first mentioned in the 11th century. From 1943 Stavern was the smallest town in Norway until it was incorporated into the municipality of Larvik in 1988 and lost its town status. Stavern has been a city again since 2010.

From 1675 to 2002 there was in Stavern with the Fredriksvern a base of the Danish , later the Norwegian navy . Today the historical building complex is used as a shipyard.

Today Stavern lives mainly from tourism, in the summer months 30,000 to 40,000 people including holidaymakers live in the city.

Agnesodden is a stone circle made of small stones about 40 cm high, one meter apart. During the excavation, the remains of several cremations were found in urns. There are no known grave goods. The material was dated to around 500 BC. Dated.

The Agnes stones are about 22.0 m long ship settlement . It consists of 14 stones. Six on each of the long sides and two larger ones on the ends. The highest end stone is 1.9 meters high. The side stones are between 40 cm and 80 cm high. The ship's setting is oriented northeast-southwest. It is believed to date from the older Iron Age .
