The Kongelige Norske Marine ( German  Royal Norwegian Navy , English Royal Norwegian Navy ) forms part of the Norwegian naval forces of the Norwegian armed forces with 3,350 soldiers .

There is also a unit of marine infantry ( Kystjegerkommandoen ), combat swimmers ( Marinejegerkommandoen ) and mine divers .

Home Guard

The Heimevernet (German Home Guard) with 35,000 members play an important role in the reserve system of the Norwegian Navy ; it provides four intervention companies with 450 soldiers each. There are two Norn patrol boats and nine smaller boats available to the Navy Home Army. In addition, civilian ships can be drafted if the occasion arises.

In addition to the headquarters in Oslo , the Navy also has naval bases in Haakonsvern near Bergen and Ramsund . During the Cold War , additional bunkered berths were created in inaccessible areas (fjords, cliffs) for the large fleet of smaller ship units .

Coastal defense

Coastal defense is another part of the Norwegian Naval Forces . It operates nine coastal forts with the Kystvakt . 1,350 conscripts are currently serving in the Kystvakt .

Norge

The royal yacht Norge is owned by the Norwegian royal family and operated by the Norwegian Navy.

Connection to the merchant navy

Ships driven by reserve officers who go to sea as captains in Norway's merchant navy fly the Norwegian national and war flags .
