The Slovenian Navy ( Slovenian Slovenska mornarica ) is the naval force of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Slovenia . It is not a separate branch of the armed forces , but reports directly to the high command of the Slovenian armed forces.

General

The Slovenian Navy was founded in 1991 in the wake of the Declaration of Independence and the 10-Day War that followed. Since Slovenia had not taken over any maritime equipment from the holdings of the Yugoslav People's Army , this area of the armed forces had to be completely rebuilt.

The headquarters are in Ankaran , north of Koper and the navy has a staff of 47 soldiers.

tasks

The Slovenian naval forces are tasked with protecting the country's territorial waters. In the event of a crisis, they must be able to defend ports and coastal waters and cooperate with allied forces.

After completing its development phase, the Slovenian Navy is now also taking part in international campaigns, such as B. Operation Mare Nostrum .

equipment

To carry out its duties, the Navy has two patrol boats and five rigid inflatable boats .
