World Wrestling Championships 1999

The World Wrestling Championships in 1999 took place in different locations, separated by style and gender. The wrestlers were each divided into eight weight classes, while the women competed in six weight classes.

Greco-Roman

The Greco-Roman style competitions took place in Athens from September 23 to 26, 1999 . In addition to the two medal winners Alfred Ter-Mkrtchyan and Thomas Zander , Adam Juretzko came in ninth in the -69 kg weight class, another German among the top ten. The Switzerland had its best wrestler in Urs Bürgler was the kg in the weight category -97 sixth.

Freestyle

The free style competitions took place in Ankara from October 7-10, 1999 . In addition to Alexander Leipold , the German wrestlers achieved three other placements in the top ten: Sven Thiele took 6th place in the -130 kg weight class, Vasili Zeiher came ninth in the -54 kg weight class and Heiko Balz came in 10th place the weight class -97 kg.
