Michael Beilin

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Beilin (born May 24, 1976 ) is a retired Israeli wrestler . He won three Greco-Roman-style medals in featherweight at world and European championships .

Career

Michael Beilin learned to wrestle as a teenager in what was then the Soviet Union. After emigrating to Israel, he became a member of Hapoel Tel Aviv . His trainer was Boris Vinokurov. He only wrestled in the Greco-Roman style and with a size of 1.66 meters until 2001 in the featherweight and from 2002 in the lightweight . Although Israel is in Asia, the Israeli Wrestling Federation is part of the European Wrestling Federation for political reasons. Therefore Michael Beilin could start at European championships, but not at Asian championships.

He made his debut on the international wrestling mat in 1996 at the European Championships in Budapest. He came in 12th place. He did much better at the 1997 European Championship in Kouvola, Finland, where he won over Alexander Schischko, Belarus and Robert Mazouch, Czech Republic. Defeats against Şeref Eroğlu , Turkey, Akaki Chachua , Georgia and Matyas Megyes, Hungary, contrasted with these victories and relegated him to 6th place. At the 1997 World Championships in Wrocław, he almost reached the medal ranks. There he defeated Leonhard Ionel Frincu, Romania, then lost to Akaki Chachua, triumphing over Konstantios Arkoudeas, Greece, Ramazan Aydin, Germany, Alexander Stepanjan, Ukraine and Juan Luis Maren Delis , Cuba. He then lost the battle for a bronze medal to the reigning Olympic champion Włodzimierz Zawadzki from Poland. His 4th place is an outstanding result.

In 1998 he was less successful. He finished 17th at the European Championships in Minsk and 13th at the World Championships in Gaevle / Sweden. In Gaevle, however, he won victories over such good wrestlers as Emil Budinow from Bulgaria and Akaki Chachua. At the European Championships in 1999 Michael Beilin defeated Peter Ronai from Hungary and Tomislaw Wukelic from Croatia, but then retired after a defeat against Wlodzimierz Zawadzki and took 8th place. He then won his first medal at an international championship at the World Championships in Athens that year. There he defeated Miroslaw Welkow, Macedonia, lost something surprisingly against Endrix Arteaga from Venezuela, then defeated Yi Shanjun, China and Riccardo Magni, Italy, before he was defeated again by Şeref Eroğlu. In the final battle for a bronze medal, however, he won against Bahodir Qurbonov from Uzbekistan.

With this bronze medal, he also qualified for participation in the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. In Sydney, however, he only got one victory over Vitaly Schuk from Belarus. He then lost to Bahodir Qurbonov, retired and came in 15th. At the European Championships 2001 in Istanbul Michael Beilin reached the 7th place. At the 2001 World Cup in Patras he was in great shape. There he defeated Elbrus Mammadow, Azerbaijan, Bahodir Qurbonov, Beat Motzer, Switzerland and Kevin Bracken from the United States, before he was stopped by Kim In-sub from South Korea, against whom he lost 2: 3 points. In the final fight he then defeated Juan Luis Maren Delis and thus secured a world championship bronze medal.

He also won a medal, again the bronze one, at the next international championship, the 2002 European championship in Seinäjoki / Finland. There he defeated Elbrus Mammadow, Rocco Fabio Spano, Italy and Levente Füredy , Hungary. Then he was defeated by Şeref Eroğlu, but secured this medal with a victory over Vitaly Schuk.

After that, Michael Beilin took part in three more world championships and one European championship up to 2006. He could no longer place himself in the top ten.
