Anita Schätzle (born September 22, 1981 in Haslach im Kinzigtal ) is a former German freestyle wrestler in the weight class up to 72 kilograms.

Career

Anita Schätzle is a trained carpenter and was a sports soldier for the Bruchsal sports promotion group . She has started for the WKG Koblenz-Rübenach since 2007 and is trained by Waldemar Galwas . In 1988 she began with gymnastics and athletics, but switched to wrestling in Haslach in 1990. From 2000 to 2004 she started for VfK Mühlenbach , 2004 to 2006 for AC 09 Mainz-Laubenheim and 2006 for VfK Schifferstadt. In 1994 she came second at the German Youth Championships. In 1995, 1996 and 1997 Schätzle won the title. Since 1998 she started in the senior sector. At the first German championship she was defeated in the final and won silver. She won the title for the first time in 1999 and was champion eight times in a row from 2001 to 2008.

Internationally, Schätzle first appeared at the 1995 European Junior Championships in Klippan , where she reached seventh place. A year later in Rødby she won silver, in 1997 in Hradec Králové and in 1998 in Patras she won the titles. In addition, Schätzle also won the title at the Junior World Championship in Fredrikstad in 1998 . In 1999 she was in Budapest again Junior European Champion and second in the Junior World Championships in Bucharest . In 2000 she won both titles in Sofia and Nantes . In 2001 she took part for the last time as a junior and won again World Cup gold in Martigny .

In the senior sector, she has been running in parallel since 1998. At her first European Championship in Bratislava , Schätzle was fifth, in 1999 she won bronze in Götzis and silver at the World Championships in Boden . In 2000 and 2001 the European Championships took place in Budapest, Schätzle came second and third. This year she was also the German champion in the weight class up to 68 kg body weight ahead of Nina Englich , the double European champion from Witten . In 2001 she also reached the top of the world rankings for women in her weight class. The 2002 European Championship in Seinäjoki brought another bronze medal, the World Championships in Chalkida were not so successful, Schätzle came ninth. Haslach celebrated her greatest success in 2003 in Riga when she became European champion. She was able to win the title again in Varna in 2005. At the Olympic Games in Athens , Schätzle was sixth. The 2005 World Cup in Budapest was more successful, with Schätzle winning bronze. She won another bronze medal at the 2006 European Championships in Moscow . With the 3rd place at the EM 2008 in Tampere / FIN, she qualified for the Olympic Games in Beijing. There she finished 7th. Even before the games, her retirement from competitive sport was certain. In her long career she won a total of 19 medals at international championships. In doing so, she defeated a number of world-class athletes.
