Chadschimurad Saigidmagomedowitsch Magomedov ( Russian Хаджимурад Сайгидмагомедович Магомедов ., Scientific transliteration Chadžimurad Sajgidmagomedovič Magomedov * 24. February 1974 in Makhachkala , Dagestan ASSR ) is a Russian wrestler . He became the 1996 Atlanta Free Style Middleweight Olympic Champion.

Career

Hadzhimurad Magomedov began wrestling as a teenager in 1985 in Makhachkala . He was initially a member of the Spartak Sports Club , then of Rossiya Makhachkala and finally of SKA (Army Sports Club) Makhachkala . The coach who mainly looked after him was Cherlen Nussuev. He wrestled exclusively in free style and throughout his career in the middleweight division, weighing around 90 kg with a height of 1.78 meters and having worked off the necessary kilos for the competitions.

In the extremely tough competition in Russia he managed to fight his way to the top of the middleweights in 1996. His toughest rivals were Ruslan Katinowasow and Rustam Keleksajew . In that year he was used for the first time at an international championship, the European championship in Budapest . He only lost there against Mogamed Ibragimov from Azerbaijan and immediately took an excellent 3rd place. How well he was trained in his youth, he showed at his next international start, the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. He won there over Alioune Diouf, Senegal , Wilson Ariel Ramos from Cuba , Amir Reza Khadem Azghadi from Iran and Yang Hyung-mo from South Korea and became Olympic champion .

In 1997 he was also European champion in Warsaw , where he a. a. against Andre Backhaus from Germany and David Bichinaschwili from Ukraine , who later started for Germany, won and prevailed in the final against Nicolae Ghiţă from Romania . At the 1997 World Cup in Krasnoyarsk , he won over Ali Reza Keser from Turkey , Yang Hyung-Mo and others. Soslan Frajew , the European champion from 1994. Then he lost against the US-American Leslie Gutches just on points (2: 3 technical points). With another victory over Mogamed Ibragimov he fought his way to fight for the bronze medal against Alireza Heidari from Iran . But he lost this fight with 1: 5 techn. Points and only came in 4th place.

In 1998 he paused at the European Championships, but was back at the World Cup in Tehran . There he won over Hans Gstöttner from Germany just 2: 1 techn. Points and defeated the 1997 world champion Leslie Gutches (1-0 technical points) in the revenge . In his fourth fight he lost to Mogamed Ibragimov and with a victory over Magomed Kuruglijew from Kazakhstan he could only open up the possibility of a fight for the bronze medal against Yoel Romero from Cuba. Like a year before, he lost again and was only 4th winner again.

In 1999 he won the World Cup in Ankara over his old rivals David Bichinashvili , Yang Hyung-mo and Leslie Gutches . In the final he was defeated again against Yoel Romero and became vice world champion.

In the Olympic year 2000 he was beaten by Adam Saitijew at the Russian championship and at the "Ivan Yarigin" tournament in Krasnoyarsk . So he had no chance to be used at the European Championships and the Olympic Games this year. In 2001, however, he represented the injured Adam Saitijew, who had become Olympic champion in 2000 , very successfully at the World Championships in Sofia , because he was finally world champion there in his fourth attempt . He defeated u. a. again David Bichinashvili , the defending champion of 1999 Yoel Romero and in the final the American Brandon Eggum .

In 2002 he had to bow to Adam Saitijew again at the important national competitions . In 2003 he was part of the Russian team at the World Cup in Boise / USA. He only played one fight there, which he lost on points against the new American star Cael Sanderson , who became Olympic champion in 2004.

He then resigned and devoted himself to training as a coach. Today (2009) he is one of the coaches of the Russian national wrestling team in free style.
