Magomed Tschikibubajewitsch Kuruglijew (born January 16, 1974 in Tsnal , Dagestani ASSR ) is a former Kazakh wrestler . He was a multiple medalist at World and Asian Championships in free style.

Career

Magomed Kuruglijew started wrestling as a teenager in 1988. The 1.78 meter tall athlete, who as an adult mostly competed in the middleweight division, belonged to the central sports club of the Kazakh army in Alma-Ata (now Almaty ). He wrestled only in free style and was trained by Danim Atamkulov and Valentin Pustawetow.

His international career began Magomed Kuruglijew at the Junior World Championships (Espoirs) in 1993 in Athens . He finished second in the middleweight division behind Eldar Assanow from Ukraine , but ahead of Leslie Gutches from the United States.

In the senior division he made his debut in 1995. He came in the Asian championship in Manila in the light heavyweight division on the 5th place. A few weeks later he started at the world championship in Atlanta in welterweight, so two weight classes lower. The strong training will not have left him without a trace, because he only finished 16th there.

Magomed Kuruglijew also started in 1996 and 1997 in the welterweight division. The best results were the 2nd place at the Asian Championship in 1996 in Xiaoshan / China , where he took 2nd place behind the South Korean Park Jang-soon and 1st place at the East Asian Championship 1997 in Busan / South Korea, where he even defeated the strong South Korean Moon Eui-jae . At the Olympic Games in Athens in 1996 he lost his two fights, which he played and therefore only achieved 19th place. He also had no win at the 1997 World Cup in Krasnoyarsk , where he lost a. a. against David Bichinashvili , who started for the Ukraine at the time , but later switched to the German Wrestling Federation, and ended up in 27th place.

Much more successful cut Magomed Kuruglijew at the 1998 World Cup, starting again in the middleweight division, in Tehran . He won four fights there and lost only to Magomed Ibragimow from Macedonia and Chadschimurad Magomedow from Russia , with which he took a good 5th place.

At the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 he lost to Yoel Romero Palacio from Cuba and Igors Samusonoks from Latvia and achieved 10th place with just one victory over the Canadian Justin Abdou .

Magomed Kuruglijew won a silver medal at the Asian Games in Busan in 2002 , and was only defeated in the final by Moon Eui-jae . In 2003 he came back to a good 5th place at the World Middleweight Championship in New York . He defeated it Hidekuzur Yokoyama from Japan , Sergei Kolesnikow from Israel and Nicolae Ghiţă from Romania . At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , he did not manage to place himself in the front of the field. He lost to Sergei Borchanko from Ukraine and Cael Sanderson from the United States, the eventual Olympic champion, and only reached 18th place.

In 2005 Magomed Kuruglijew was finally rewarded for his perseverance. He won a world championship bronze medal with a 3rd place at the world championship in Budapest in the middleweight division. He defeated Daniel Kennedy from Ireland , Arkadij Zopa from Bulgaria , Travis Cross from Canada and, what is particularly noteworthy, Saschid Saschidow from Russia , the world champion of 2003. He lost against Rewas Mindorashvili from Georgia .

At the end of his career he finished in 2006 at the Asian Games in Doha in the middleweight division behind Reza Yazdani from Iran and Sajurbek Sochijew from Uzbekistan .

Since the end of his active career he has been working as a wrestler trainer in Kazakhstan.
