Revas Mindorashvili ( Georgian რევაზ მინდორაშვილი ; born July 1, 1976 in Gurdschaani , Kakheti ) is a Georgian wrestler . He was the 2008 Beijing Olympic Middleweight Free Style Champion.

Life

Revas Mindorashvili grew up in Tbilisi and began wrestling there in 1992. At Dinamo Tbilisi , Dato Gonashvili and Marlen Osakmashvili became his coach. Mindorashvili has developed into an excellent freestyle wrestler over the years. He is only 1.73 m tall, stocky and extremely strong physically. At the beginning of his career he wrestled in welterweight, since 2002 in middleweight. He is currently a professional wrestler and in this context also wrestles in foreign leagues, e.g. B. in Turkey and Germany , where he went on the mat for SC Anger .

His international wrestling career began in 1998, when he had already outgrown the junior class. He finished 4th at the Universities World Championship in Ankara in the welterweight category. In 1999 he started at the European championship in Minsk in the welterweight division, but lost to Radion Kertanti from Slovakia and Árpád Ritter from Hungary , which he eliminated and was classified in 13th place.

In 2000 he started at the Olympic qualification tournaments in Minsk (13th place) and in Leipzig (11th place). With these placements he did not qualify for the Olympic Games in Sydney . In 2001 he was used at the European Championships in Budapest , where he finished 8th in the welterweight division with a victory over Christian Weiss from Germany and defeats against Eugen Preda, Romania and Buwaissar Saitijew from Russia . He was also at the start of this year's World Cup in Sofia , where he won over Alexander Leipold from Germany and Wolodymyr Syrotin from Ukraine . After another defeat against Buwaissar Saitijew, he was eliminated and came in 7th place.

In 2002 he succeeded, wrestling for the first time in the middleweight division, his first medal win at an international championship at the European Championships in Baku . He won in Baku over Thomas Bucheli from Switzerland , Serhat Balcı , Turkey and Jurijs Janovics from Latvia , lost to Bekbulat Mussajeu from Belarus and won the European Championship bronze medal with a victory over Mogamed Ibragimov from Macedonia . At the 2006 World Cup in Tehran , he won over Eldar Assanow from Ukraine and Nicholas Ugoalah from Canada and lost to Yoel Romero from Cuba , with which he reached 6th place.

In 2003 Mindorashvili celebrated his first title win at the European Championships in Riga . In the middleweight division, he won over Əkbər İsmayılov from Azerbaijan , Egidijus Valavičius from Lithuania , Sjarhej Bortschenka from Belarus, Wadim Lalijew from Russia and Mamed Aghajew from Armenia and thus became European champion . At the 2003 World Cup in New York , he first won victories over Almasbek Ergeschow, Kyrgyzstan , Lazaros Loizidis , Greece and Gökhan Yavaşer , Turkey . In his fourth fight he was defeated by the US shooting star Cael Sanderson , but still won the bronze medal with a victory over Sjarhej Bortschenka.

In 2004 Mindoraschwili was in Ankara with victories over David Bichinashvili from Germany a. Kamel Shalorous, Great Britain , one loss to Wadim Lalijew, one loss to Lazaros Loizidis and one loss to Gökhan Yavaşer Vice European Champion. He believed that he was well equipped for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . In Athens he met the Greek Lazaros Loizidis in the first round, whom he had already defeated several times. With the stormy encouragement of his Greek compatriots, Loizidis surpassed himself and won over Rewas Mindorashvili on points. A subsequent point win over Vincent Aka-Akesse from France only brought Mindorashvili to a disappointing 13th place.

Even at the European Championships in 2005 in Varna Mindorashvili did not get a medal rank. He won over Edgar Jenokjan from Armenia and Radosław Horbik from Poland , but lost to Taras Danko from Ukraine and Lazaros Loizidis and only reached 5th place. Without much expectation, he took part in the 2005 World Cup in Budapest after an injury break. He got better there from fight to fight, successively defeating Travis Cross from the United States, Anthony Fasugba from Italy , Magomed Kuruglijew from Kazakhstan, Saschid Saschidow from Russia and Yoel Romero and became world middleweight champion.

At the European Championships in Moscow in 2006 Mindorashvili was defeated by Adam Saitijew , Buwaissar Saitijew's brother and somewhat demotivated against David Bichinashvili and therefore only reached 18th place. But he was far more successful at the World Championships in Guangzhou in China that same year . He won there over David Bichinashvili, Gandsorigiin Gantschujag from Mongolia , Wadim Lalijew and Zaurbek Soxiyev from Uzbekistan . Only in the final did he lose to Saschid Saschidow and thus became vice world champion.

In 2007 Mindorashvili was only at the World Cup in Baku at the start. Surprisingly, he lost his first fight there against Novruz Temrezov from Azerbaijan. Since this did not reach the final, he was eliminated and only took 30th place, which is out of the question for him.

At the European Championships in Tampere in 2008 Mindorashvili became vice European champion again with victories against long-term rivals David Bichinashvili, Javier Ramos, Spain , Iwan Jankouski, Belarus and Sergei Kolesnikow , Israel and a defeat against 2007 world champion Georgi Ketojew from Russia. At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 he won against Bichinashvili on points in the very last second of the third round, then he defeated Harutjun Jenokjan from Armenia and world champion Georgi Ketojew and also won the final battle against Yusup Abdussalomov from Tajikistan and thus became Olympic champion.

Revas Mindorashvili has been the head coach of the Georgian Wrestling Federation since 2012.
